Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

So have their actions been good or bad toward the consumer?

Good in some ways but not so good when so many buy a new detector and find out the coil sucks. Then to correct this it cost more money, that I think is what the problem is, everytime Minelab screws up it makes them more money at our expense! Maybe that's why I use the older Explorers and no longer deal with the service center.

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

Question;
"When was the last time you heard about "any" metal detecting company having a recall on "any" of their products?"

Minelab, like everyone of its competitiors is really good; on hype!

Personally, I like most of Minelab's products. I don't like their approach to fixing problems or potential problems. You would think a company such as Minelab would care about us, their users. I've been aware of a lot of talk/complaints about the FBS Slimline coils for as long as I've been useing Minelab. It makes one wonder just how much research/testing was done before their release! There must be something to it; the complaints. Wouldn't you think Minelab would offer to replace/allow trades of the older coils on something better instead of "expecting" us, the users to eat it and go out, taking their word the new coil is better and spend our hard earned "gas" money with them and their dealers? I heard recently Minelab understood there was a problem with the first series of Slimlines, releasing a new coil this past February but not officially. Or, if they did I didn't read the release. I've got them both (or think I do) and to be perfectly honest I can't tell one from the other viewer-wise or, in the field. I don't like turning down SENSITIVITY if I don't have to. I have to with "either" of these coils. Speaking, of what I think is the new version of SlimLine how do I even know it's improved? The two coils are identical in appearance! Again, you would think Minelab would make it easy to know by changing the model info, color, or something! Do they care?

Bottom line is, I'm just like another viewer/responder to this thread; I think I'm going to hang on to both my Explorer SEs until they croak! Other coil manufactureres offer some really nice coils for the SE and I've already discovered them. I don't have to use only Minelab coils. :)

Good swinging!

If the slimline coils were truly improved why is there a need for a new coil? I think Minelab throws out hints that there may be a fix and let the detecting community spread it from there. As for not doing anything right away they obviously screwed themselves not testing properly. To discontinue the earlier coils, come out with a dud, then what next? No choice but to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new coil. So all SE owners basically got the shaft ... connected to a bad coil.

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

I agree IP maybe Minelab should do an upgrade program or something. Probably won't happen though.

I could see them offering previous SE owners the new coil for a SUBSTANTIAL discount as a way of soothing the ill will.

Nah, not going to happen. . .

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

dont you think if minelab still thought thought they had a problem with the slimline coil, they would have just re issued the 1050? after all, they still have all of the tooling, materials, man power and technology in place to do it... if they wanted to. i really think that minelab truly believes that the trouble with the slimline is fixed and this is just a marketing ploy to ive Explorer SE sales a kick in the pants.IMO.

No, I do not think that because if they did all SE owners would deserve or at least want a new coil, and from what I've seen of Minelab they certainly wouldn't do that. Minelab wins all around for the way they did it, why take a step back and issue the heavier coils again, would make no sense. That's not to mention all new SE owners would have nothing to compare it to and not know the difference. The only defense I really see Minelab having is to say the SE is what it is, so the coil sucks. Again not something we would ever hear.
