Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

Almost all the reviews I read on the SE said the unit was a little unstable because of a poorly designed coil. The SE PRO is obviously the fix. It would be nice if the new SE PRO coil could be bought and used on the SE. Even better would be a coil trade in and upgrade to current owners. MINELAB are you listening????

You think they are going to keep producing two coils, one for the SE & another for the SE pro? I doubt that very much and all we have to do is by the new coil. Apparently there is a new 12" on the scene? I just received a price from a dealer yesterday but it was the new stock coil I was asking about, said he'd get back to me.

the pro coil can be bought and used on the old SE. the only difference is the coil. in manufacturing (any product) the product you make has a life cycle. the SE has been on the market for a while now and interest begins to slow down a bit.so what do you do?? introduce a new coil, put a new name on the old machine and generate tons of interest in a product that was beginning to lose some steam. look how much hub bub has been raised just in this thread alone! its an obvious attempt to give the SE a needed shot in the arm, and it appears to be working!

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

I emailed Minelab here in the USA and was told the machine itself had not changed. The coil is the only difference. I was also told they did not know when or where I would be able to buy said coil or if it would work on the Explorer II.

That's all I know.

Are you joking? They said they didn't know if it would work on the Explorer II? So who the hell would know! Garrett!? LOL

No, that sounds like good ole mouth shut Minelab.

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

Deductive reasoning gives the following. The SE coil will not work with the EXP II. Since the SE Pro coil is supposed to work with the SE, It follows that the SE Pro coil will not work with the EXP II.

Note the Minelab web site is showing the SE Pro only not the SE in there products section. It would appear as though the SE is going to be extinct soon. Long Live the SE Pro! Viva! Viva!

Sorry, got a little carried away.

The SE coil does not work on the ExII? Is that correct? I thought Minelab was not producing the old coils, therefore it has to mean the new SE pro coil should work on all Explorers and the Quattro.

according to the thread at minelabowners that EDDE posted, it will work with ALL of the explorer models.

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

I guess I misposted. What I meant to say is that the person that responded to my email stated "at this time I do not have any information as to when and where the new coil will be available. I also do not know of any additional changes in the SE Pro. As for the coil working on the Explorer II, I cannot advise you at this time if the new coil will work."

So that is more to the point of what the email I received said. I know I have been told that the stock EX II coil worked fine on SEs and that a lot of people had done just that with all the coil problems they had with the initial SE coils.

Since I don't own an SE but want one it only makes sense to wait and keep saving my clad for the SE Pro with the new coil.

Sorry if I added to the confusion.

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

All Explorer coils (both old and new) should be interchangeable, including this newest 11" DD coil.

The bigger concern is how much better is it over the Exp. II 1050 coil. There's a dealer on my local CA forum who received a few of the SE Pro's the other day. He was so curious, well anxious, to try out the new 11" coil. He took the new coil off one of the new SE Pros and installed it on his older SE. Here's his results with about 1.5 hours of operation:

Couldn't stand it any longer, so I took one of the new coils off of one of the new SE Pros I got in yesterday, and put it on my old SE. I took it to a place I have hunted many times, bot with my old Exp II and my SE. I have used stock coil, platypus, SunRay's 12" and 8", and have dug a few silver dimes and wheaties at those times.

This time I was out for 1 1/2 hours, and in that time I dug 2 green wheatback pennies, BUT..... they were deeper than my 12" digger. In fact, I put them at between 13"-14" deep!

Most of the park was wet down only 2"-3", and below that is hardpan. Both spots where I dug the deepies were low spots around or near sprinklers, and it was evenly moist all the way down. What I would consider perfect conditions.

It is too early to tell if it was just luck, or if this is indeed a better coil. We'll see.

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

I stand corrected. I am really interested in the new coil. Capt. SE Are you saying the new coil goes deeper? Did it seem to loose small targets? Tell me more. :tard: ???

im going to take a wait and see approach. i figure if its a dog, everyone will know it in the first few months.

I seen another post of your's stating you heard the problem with the slimline might have been being only single wrapped. Is there any way to find out whether the pro coil is doubled? Most of my detecting is about hearing very slight sounds in iron so even 5% more noise would not be acceptable.

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

There might be, if you know someone inside of Minelab. From what I've heard, Minelab went through over 2 years of Research and Devolopment in making this coil. I really would like to get my hands on one and try it out. I heard from other sites that this coil is very quiet, and you can turn the sens. up more than normal with no ill effects. Here's some more info I've been able to gather:

I've read on other sites that the new SE Pro coil is 72 grams lighter than the slimline coil.

slimline coil - 600 gr.
New 11 DD coil - 528 gr.

Still no new field tests to report.

It's looking like Minelab put out this coil in response to Detech's new SEF coils for the Explorer Series. I'm not sure you can get these SEF coils in the States yet. Check them out. Very similar...from early field test reports, they're supposed to be awesome!!!

But there can be a negative flipside to running smooth - being too quiet! I find the old 10.5" stock is just the right balance and hope the new SE pro coil is close to the same. I will probably buy one and take both coils the first hunt for some side by side tests and no doubt have something for sale the next day. I tend to not like many detecting tests but this is an easy one to get a true result.

Re: Minelab releasing the new "SE PRO"

Being pretty new to this hobby, I'm currious what was said about the SE when it came out to replace the Explorer II. Did they rave about the new Slimline coil over the 1050? I'm kind of currious why Minelab did not see the fault of the Slimline coil over the 1050 when they tested it prior to release. :icon_scratch:

Of course it was hyped, it always is. With Minelab their actions speak louder than words because they have had to make changes to the Explorer since it came out. Some have been some pretty stupid mistakes.
