Minelab sold! (not my detector, the company!)

very interesting news. i dont know anything about this Codan company. lets hope they dont start manufacturing in friggin china! i guess time will tell. ::)

Don't know if this is Good or Bad news at this point.

I may have to stick with Older Machines off EBay

if they start Scrimping.

Or worse. Which can't be mentioned here.

What up with that ! I bought my fisher, they sell out, just bought a minelab they sell out.Hmmmm.....

Well for God's Sake don't buy a Tesoro! :D

That is not good news to hear...............But you never know about this......Codan.... they could be a good Co.............I am not sure but i don't think that Australia farms out a lot of business to China the way the U.S. does

It seems to be the eternal theme in business to acquire an unrelated operation to insulate oneself from fluctuations in the original business, make a mess of the acquisition, then later spin it off and return to the "core business." Maybe this acquistion will work out better. I don't have any Minelab, but have thought about trading one of my green machines towards an Xterra 70 or a T2. Maybe I'll not buy anything just now.

Hope all goes well, I already have 2 Sovereign GTs, and 2 Excals, selling one Excal, but I will keep one as backup to my waterproof Sov GT. I should be set for a long time no matter what happens..

As i remember it Australia is a great country for protecting it's work force kinda like the UK but even better. Basically it's the USA that don't give a damn about the work force caring more for their friends in business! After they buy out I am afraid minelab will be made in china! Bill

I Realy don't care as long as they Don't Cut back on
Workforce & Improving them.
Or start making them out of Cheap Plastic
and selling them at Wallmart.

COHU

COHU makes semiconductor test equipment and closed circuit TV. When they sold Fisher in 2005, according to COHU's website, Fisher accounted for 3% of their sales. I remember reading that Fisher lost money in 2005 and COHU wanted to acquire new buildings for an expansion. I just checked Codan's website, and they manufacture HF ("shortwave") communications equipment for the military. Maybe the security and mine detecting equipment of Minelab will mesh well with Codan's business plans. As to the civilian side of Minelab....

All we can do now is hope for the best I guess. I had even thought about purchasing a Minelab but now maybe I'll hold off and see what will happen first.

Unless your expecting a major Improvement
I would think now is the perfect time
just in case they cut corners once they Settle in.

Thats weird. I doubt it will make much difference

I would not let this slow down a Minelab purchase for even a day. Minelab has excellent detectors on the market right now.

the only thing i could see happening would be if the new owners did something with the warranty, not like minelab had a lifetime warranty anyway. the quality of the machines in stock now will be the same quality as they have always been since they were made by the previous owner. as time goes by we will be able to tell if the quality is going to suffer. hopefully this wont be like the first texas buyout of fisher, where the production and design of the detectors has been drasticly altered. maybe we will get lucky and they will leave the production facilities and the R&D staff in place. time will tell.

???......That is what i was saying the Co. that bought out Minelab..Codan..is in Australia and as a country Australia is not like the U.S.A. they like to keep the work in there country not farm every thing out to China.....Our country trys to screw us every day and gets away with it they don't try they do screw us and like Jeffofpa said please don't let us see Minelab in Walmart.................................==Jim==

I just got back from the homebuilders show in Orlando. The dam Chinese are supplying building materials now. Crappy building materials..look good, but lousy materials.

That's the problem. Workmanship is ok, but materials are LOUSY. Hmmm..I seem to be stuck on the word lousy. Must be a Chinese computer.
