Been all over all the forums and can't find an answer...

I think the rechargeable battery pack for my Minelab Sovereign GT is shot and I might have to rebuild/replace.

Two questions:

1. Rebuild: how does the case open? Any gotchas?
2. Replace: the ML rechargeable pack is only rated at 1000 mAh. Modern AA rechargeables are rated at nearly 3X that figure. Wouldn't I be better off buying the "alkaline" pack and installing modern NiMh batteries?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

You may want to try taking it to a Batteries Plus or a store like this to see what they would charge to rebuild it.

As to batteries being a higher ma rating. No problem, they have more storage and will last longer in use.

You can put them into the battery holder but it is a pain to take them in and out to charge. May be better off using a charger that will charge the whole pack through the pack's output contacts.

Well this is an old post but probably still quite relevant , as im going through the throws of doing the same, time marches on,, ,for all those that may still view this post there are on ebay , the holly grail of lithium Lion 1.5 volt AA sized rechargeable four batteries plus charger £25.00 , so you need eight ,,going to cost £50 ,,but very versatile size, and lithium lion, quicker charge longer lasting ...another option Zippy1000 11.1volts and fits in the alkaline pod with a bit of manipulation ...

Maxxpacks.com sells a rechargeable battery pack for older Sovs with plug in batteries. Maybe you could wire one of those in. I have 2 for my Sov XS, they last 20-30 hours in a charge.
