I recently got a couple extra coils for my X-70 which included the 5x9 DD coil. Now all my other concentric coils always pinpoint near the center of the coil. Easy.

BUT with the DD coil, my finds have moved. They move about 3 inches forward from wher I thought they were.

So I drew a chalk cross line on my driveway. I put a coin at the center and checked my coils pinpointing accuracy. The concentrics were ringht on, as expected, but the DD was actually about 1/3rd the distance from the tip. And I painted white cross lines on the coil so now I know.

Sounds silly but this will save me a LOT of extra digging with that coil. Here's a pic.

Great tip, Thanks!

I actually pinpoint at the tip where you have your vertical line drawn. I find the signal going side to side, and then pull the coil back to me until the signal disappears. That's the sweet spot. And the 5 x 10 is a great all around coil.

That's the way I've always done it and it works.

Hi the method that i used to locate the SWEET SPOT
on my coil is the string method, then see where your
machine gives you the highest signal. The majority
of minelab coils sweet spots are located under the LOGO
sticker but you need to double check this setting location.

Dig a 6" Diameter Hole by 6" Deep and place a article
previously found while out Metal Detecting in the center
of the base of the hole and use a level to align the string
lines so they correspond to the center of the target. Use
the 3,4, 5 method to make shure you have a right triangle
to.
