Minie Sabot?

Found this sabot in an area we believe to have been a camp for Union soldiers traveling through. Figure someone here may have some experience to help identify. The smaller lead ball is a poured lead and was found not far from the sabot.

Nice finds. The 1st pic is a mini ball round. Could be from a .58 caliber but we'd need the diameter measurement.

About 1/2” or 1mm

A sabot is a wooden (or nowadays plastic) “shoe” that holds a projectile centered in the barrel of a gun with a bore of a diameter greater than the diameter of the projectile. For example, by using a sabot a .44 soft nosed revolver bullet can be fired from a .50 muzzleloading rifle. It holds the bullet tightly in the bore and falls off after leaving the barrel while the bullet continues on its way. Nothing in the pictures is a sabot; rather they are a minie ball, probably.58 or .54, and a round ball.
