I went with my mom and son to the park and decided to bring the detector. Thought maybe I'd find something. I searched for about 45 minutes over some old hotspots I had previously hit. Nothing. Had a pouch full of vodka bottles, nutra-slim can, Poland Spring bottles, plastic bags, and nada else.

Got ready to go and my 1 1/2 year old boy wandered over to a spot I'd previously pulled a 40-something Merc. Went over and scanned and BOOM!

It read 12-46/47 at 6". Went down 6", then 8", the 10"...nothing. Thought hmmmm.... Rescanned and 12-48, 01-48....Then I knew it was goin to be good. I gingerly moved another inch or two of dirt and saw the rim. Sideways and edge-up.

At that point I called my mom over and had my son look in the hole. He saw it and grabbed that sucker! Dropped it and I saw the eagle.

Barber 1/2 Dollar minted in the great year of 1903 in San Francisco.

I'm especially stoked since my mom was there and my son pulled his first silver from the ground. Funny part was he did not give it up. He ran off!!!!

Lol. Happy hunting and just when you think you don't want to detect your local park again, go do it. View attachment 1155892

Those are always a "Jaw-Dropping":metaldetector: :occasion14: good find in my book, only had one so far and had to dig down to the hard pan through sixty years of parking lot gravel to get mine !! Great story by the way too :laughing7:

Thx. I'm often light on the stories but this one was worth sharing. I had to give my boy a fake gold toned dollar coin before he allowed me to pry this one from his mitts!

Thx Chris. A buddy of mine didn't tell me more than two weeks ago this was on his bucket list. Guess who I texted first? Lol.

Very nice looking coin. The excitement from pulling Halves out of the ground is unreal.

Digging any barber is a thrill, but when it's a half barber dollar it's something special. Super cool find!

Thx Gary. The kids love my coins. He knew exactly what is was when he reaches in that hole. At home I have to give them shiny clad to keep them away from my silver stash.
