Hey everyone, I have a few tokens im hoping someone can help me out with as far as age & approx. values. the tokens are: (W.H Mckay-longton,kansas-good for $1.00 in trade) I heard this token in this denomination is unlisted. Next one reads: Post canteen 12 on one side & 10 cents on the other side, the pic of this token is about the best I can get, sorry, I know its kinda hard to read. Then I have some B.P.O.E. good for tokens (aluminum). Thanks, chris

Chris--William H. McKay was the son of Andrew B. McKay who was a blacksmith in Longton. William was born in 1880 and was living with his parents in 1900 in Longton where he was also a blacksmith. I think it was shortly after 1900 that he took a venture into the general store business, but that evidently wasn't successful as he went to Kansas City, MO and was back blacksmithing in 1910 and 1920. There is only a 10¢ token from him listed in Waken's KS Trade Tokens book. Normally, general stores had tokens made in most denominations corresponding to coinage - 5¢ through $1 - so there should be others out there to find.

Do a google search for american legion post 12 in the state where you found it and you will
learn the the town it was used. Don't just look for post 12 as there are 50 of them. You need
the state to avoid a lot of unneeded reading. good luck. When you have that information please post the town name on this thread. regards, siegfried schlagrule
