Better but they do not meet my standards for the CTX other then comfort. One reason I bought a CTX to make a better set of headphones for it, have a few sets out testing right now with CTX hunters, one is a diver and has about 24 hours under and they still work great..he dives in the area of 10 feet with the CTX...these have the same audio speakers as the Black Windows, Sunray Pro Golds... BY far the best for the CTX. I also have one set out using the same speakers as the old rat phones..richer audio.. stay tuned.

What characterizes (parameters) superior headphones for the CTX?
Wouldn't a superior headphone for the Excal which has multivariable tones, also be superior on a CTX, which in my opinion
has less stringent requirement(s) in it's tonal range.

I especially like the concept of using the CTX 3030 waterproof connector as the standard, if the pinouts for the CTX 3030 and the Excalibur are the same as the same headphone could be used on either detector model, simplifying troubleshooting and reducing the number of headphones supported.

Testing
Both can share the same headphones, which are the speakered headphones I spoke of... 100% water proof and the best for multivariable tones...same speakers as the Sunray Pro Golds, Black Widows, Jolly Rogers..Detector Pro...etc... Also a set using the Old Rat Phone speakers, Kobitones 500's, a deeper smoother bass audio...

But I do have one special set that I use for PP hunting that are a killer, they don't work well on the CTX but allow the faintest of faints to be heard, only good in PP (on the Excalibur) and the tones are not the best. But you can watch another hunter laying out the target trail (lane) by the targets he digs, then jump in his lane behind him and Dig targets he missed because he did not hear them.

Are you detecting with an Excalibur or Excalibur ll?
Also are you hunting in All Metal?

I detectwith an Excalibur ll 1000 in Hawaii with minimum discrimination (disc = 1).
I have tried hunting in all metal numerous times, but have not noticed an increase in depth.
I have difficult in obtaining a stable threshold in all metal it seems to drift back and forth.

Or it may be that the stock Koss headphones are not sensitive enough for reverse discrimination hunting?

I hunt for hours at a time, and I have never had a problem with the stock headphones being uncomfortable? Also, I can hear every sound with no problems - Maybe I just have supersonic hearing?
