Mom is out to visit from Tennessee. Have some boxes to go through so I enlisted Mom's help. I'd say she did OK for her first go. Gotta love beginner's luck.

I previewed the box, so I knew it had at least one 64 Kender.

Your Mom did great! I'd enlist my mom to help out, but a few days ago she called me telling me she had two nickels that had no copper showing on the edges and wanted me to check them out. So I'd have to train her a bit. But at least now she's checking her change for silver!

I just told her to look for a mint mark over Monticello. In fact, this morning she called me and said she got a golden quarter in her change. So I'll be dropping by her place tonight to check that out. That makes me curious, my first thought was golden dollar but she knows all about those.

That's almost certainly a gold plated quarter. The kind of thing you'd buy on QVC. A few pennies worth of gold plating on it and sold for a dollar a piece in a set or some such.

If my mom was still alive (passed away in 2001), she would be bringing me all her casino winnings (in coin back then) so that I would be able to check them all. Day late & a dollar short. Tell your mom to keep stacking.

accordselux- Yep, you are right I think, it is a South Carolina quarter that looks to have a nice thin plating of gold. She donated it to my collection, haha... and reminded me not to spend on accident five times before I got out the door. That's what Moms are for! I roll up all her change for her when she gets enough because I am one of those weirdos that enjoys it.

Yeah, definitely tell your Mom to keep stacking, Greastart. Before long she'll be texting you photos of her finds on a weekly basis.
