Hey everybody! Since my family has officially moved, I pulled some of my older relic boxes from storage and decided to do a little diorama of some new finds with some older ones. It baffles me how a little over a decade of hard work and determination can lead to such an astounding outcome, and these finds are only from my family’s 150 acre plot. Not even three of these tables could fit all the relics I now possess. Really shows that a little elbow grease and dedication can reap unbelievable rewards. If anybody wants detailed photos of anything I have shown here, feel free to ask! I know it’s a little hard to see. I was pressed for table space and couldn’t decide what I wanted to display🤣🤣🤣. I had a pretty successful day testing a new area on my property the other day, so I added those as well.

Nice collection you have there, pretty impressive and thank you for taking the time to share it with us!

Out of all your finds (and i know this is a hard question) but i'm going to put you on the spot, if you could only keep one item, what would it be?

It seems that you recovered a lot off the property (It would suck to own it after you left-and a person was into detecting) :laughing7:
Query: How different sites were on the 150 acre property.

Man, If I had to keep only one of my finds, I'd say it would have to be my first confederate lined C, which was the best one I pulled off of one of my older sites. Not a crack, press, or imperfection on this button, aside for the brown patina. This would probably be the one I go with because it was the first notable civil war relic I ever found and, I'm not going to lie, the adrenaline rush from first sliding the dirt away and seeing the C nearly made me pass out! I wouldn't choose this one for its monetary value, but so I can forever cherish the memory of discovering it and reminding myself of why I love this hobby so much! Main take away here, It's not about the money for me, but to be able to preserve the memory and lifestyle of the folks who lived out in the backwoods of Virginia. These relics give us the ability to immortalize their stories, whether we know the entirety of it or not.

When I was younger I used to wander the woods and keep note of all the unnatural oddities I found (piles of stones, geometrical indentations in the ground, etc.) In doing this, I was able to discover 5 or 6 house sites, all nestled into the valleys along creeks, aside for one, which sat at the top of the hill from a creek. I was also able to find evidence of other small sites and road beds connecting these sites. The vast majority of them date to around the 1860s and up (these sites produce mostly 1870s to 1920s relics), and one I have been able to find documented evidence of its existence going all the way back to the late 1700s, all the way up to about 1900 or 1910. This house site has produced the vast majority of the finds I have displayed here, as it was occupied for the longest period of time. All house sites are incredibly difficult to access/maneuver due to them being nestled in small sapling groves, aside for the hill site, which is in a nice open cedar grove, all of which were planted to cover the large field that existed there. The hill site has produced almost all of my civil war relics (mostly confederate), as it sat at a high vantage point overlooking the main road in 1860, which was directly below the house in the holler following the creek. There are some incredible stone walls lining the creek that one of the families must have taken years to build, with countless winding road beds (not the main road in the 1860s) that would interconnect many of these houses. I know many individuals are lucky to have even one older site on their property, so I have come to realize that I am truly a blessed person to have as much history all jammed into one plot of land.
