I went back to detect the soybean field of an 1818 house here in NC where I found a couple of arrowheads a few weeks back.
Well, today I found a couple more in the other soybean field. These two were found on top about 15' from each other.
I've never found one like the tall dark one. It has two sharp sides so I'm hoping it is an arrowhead just missing the tip.
I was hoping someone could tell me a bit about what they are. :dontknow:
Type?
Age?
etc.

Thanks for any info you can give me. I'm starting to get hooked on finding arrowheads.

Hey M.M
Its easy to get hooked. I was looking for arrowheads today and found two 58 cal 3 ringers a much easier to indentify item here :laughing7:
I am not real sure of the type on the left but it looks like they ran into trouble when making it and blew out that chunk. Its still a great find and decent example. In this area it would be an Adena point 1200 to 3000 years old.
Hopefully some of the experts will chime in. Keep looking in that field I bet there is more

I would say the one on the left is a Guilford, it was much longer at one time, can tell by the point, its been resharpened.. Its banded Rhyolite. The other is just some sort of ore? not sure what ya'll would call that over here..,
Nice find MM, congrats.

The one on the right looks like it's made of argellite. It's decent stuff when freshly knapped, but erodes like that over time.

Thanks everyone. I love finding these!

So, the one on the right IS or is not an arrowhead? Just junk? :icon_scratch:
It doesn't look like a rock to me. It looks like it was shaped at one time. :dontknow:

Can't wait till they plow those fields again. ;D

Depending on how common rock is in your area, you might hole on to the second one (non point).
Around here, any type of rock that is not sandstone is going to have been brought in by humans. Either its gravel from our modern times or its gonna be stone traded in by Indians.
I wouldn't chunk it just yet.

Re: More arrowheads from the soybean field - Nutting stone added

Thanks everyone for the info.
I think I may have posted this "nutting stone" about a year ago when I found it in a woods by a plantation house.
I just thought I would post these pictures again for those of you that haven't seen them. This sucker is like a large door stop. ;D
I was told it was a nutting stone. I know there were a lot of Indians in the area where I found it, and have found numerous arrowheads in the fields nearby also.
Enjoy,
MM
