Another $40 and got somewhat better results, though still no keepers -

1940S (2)
1946D
1948
1949S
1953
1956D
1959D

One thing I've noticed is 1960's nickels are starting to show wear that is common on 40's & 50's dates. More and more these years are showing up with Monticello's that are almost totally worn. How long before we see 70's nickels like this?

yeah i hate it when i think i see an old nickel, i look and it's a 1964 :(

At this point I've gone through enough nickels that I usually can tell by looking at the back of a nickel roughly what age it is (even without looking at the mintmark if it exists). And not just because of wear and tear. There is a slight difference to the appearance of the 40's and 50's nickels, the 60's nickels also seem different than the newer ones. Just my observation.

I've noticed that too. The easiest to spot from the reverse, for me anyway, are the 1968-1970. The reverses are much sharper for 1971 and on, which is why I wondered when the wear patterns of the ealier years would start showing.
