Can any one help me make out the letters on this headstone please? I have been reading ALOT lately and either my eyes are playing tricks on me or ti syas gnihtemos?

The best eye trick I can imagine is the mark starting next to CO. being an L instead of an O or U and making the following (left to right) C an O to make the top line visible in your picture read LOO.K.

The head stone does have name on it going around in an arc. I was trying to zoom in on the letters to better see it but maybe I cropped too much. When I get a moment I will post full pic.

The top of the headstone will have the Confederate Cross of Honor..this would be second photo you have attached (pretty worn marking) Underneath that will have the soldier name and rank. The Company and Regiment will follow. Company K recruited out of Glynn County GA (Brunswick Riflemen). Your prelim research prob pulled this up. Can’t make out what is above the 26 that precedes Company K. A complete picture might help decipher more. You can find the Company roster online and research your soldier, could have connections to KGC. This is a great opportunity to learn more about what took place and the people involved. The 26th seems to have been in the thick of it. Good luck with further research, hope you find additional info that will help you.
