Went back to the creek today and searched a couple smaller sandbars further up the creek. Ran into a guy who hunts there using only his eyes and a stick to poke around between the rocks. He told me that he had found a few mercs and wheaties just poking and scratching with his stick. He also said he had found a couple gold rings that way. Well, I haven't found any gold there yet, but I sure found a lot of other things. Mostly lead sinkers and bullets, but I have found some silver, wheaties, clad and memorials and other stuff.

Some of today's finds:

The silver turned black from being in the creek so long:

A curious clear green rock and reverses of the merc and silver quarter:

Nice finds!!! I hope we can find some nice things at Lake Greeson....we can metal detect there while camping. We'll also be digging at the Crator of Diamonds...one of the two places will have to come forth with some finds!!!

Go back...bet there is more waiting for you to find!!!

Nice finds and one hell of an emerald! Keep em coming!

Terrific finds. If your detector can go in the water give that a shot around the sandbars. Now I'm gonna have to find a place like that, sounds like a good creek.

Dude, if that truly is an emerald you have a rock there worth a pile of cash!
I would get someone expert in the ways of the Jewelry Force to take a look at it. I mean, damn!
"Lookit the size of that thing!"

I am no expert as to where emeralds can be found in the US, I only know North Carolina has them for sure, but to me that is not just a "curious clear green rock".

Let us know what you find out.
Congrats on the finds!

Ditto Falcon! :o

What some super finds! Great idea too!

Congrats! Nana :)

Falcon,

Everyone I show the rock to says it's just a hunk of glass. I don't know where to take it to for an expert opinion. Until I find a place to take it to, I'll just keep it as a curiosity piece. Thanks for your interest.

Well, that looks like a rock to me....and I believe I see a little white stone embedded in it too...

Now you have me wanting to hit the creeks. HH

Cool stuff. :) Great also to get a couple silver coins. ;D ;D

I have trouble finding gold too. ::)

That's a very productive creek!

I'd be tempted to check it after a flooding rain. Have you noticed (pockets) of items in spots? I'll bet the guy with the stick has a bead on the hot spots.

Very interesting location. Congrats on the silver coins and other cool creek finds.

Without seeing it up close, I'd have to say it looks an awful lot like a chunk of glass too. I find alot of glass that's been smoothed over from the ocean - blues, greens, clear, brown and they have that same look to them.

That said - get ahold of a local rockhounding club and have someone check it to be sure.

As far as hunting the sandbars and creek you are talking about - I'd say you have a lifes worth of hunting you should plan on doing there!!! Trust me, if a guy walking around with a stick poking around and just visually looking for things has found old coins and gold jewelry, that can only be a tiny percentage of what's actually there!!! You'll find plenty of junk too, but don't let that distract you!!

Have you seen the pictures from the guy who posts his "shark pit" finds?? I'd say if you keep that creek quiet, you may very well be able to start your own little monthly updated thread!!

Really looking forward to your finds!

Great finds ! Hold the green rock up to a bright light> if you can see you hand behind it then it's sea glass :)

Nice bunch of finds, and keep that piece of Kryponite away from Superman!!!!! ;D ;D
