Life gets busy and my time this week was limited. I managed to get back to the animal rescue facility and spend 4.5 hours swingin the CZ21. Silver found its way under my coil again which was nice. There were lots of mid tone signals and I dug a lot of them with high hopes, but there were too many is spots to dig them all. I ended up with 25 coins with a face value of $1.68, including 5 wheaties (1919, 1941, 1951, 1953D a s 1958), 2 silver dimes (1941 and 1960D), a few aluminum bottle caps, a little can slaw, some heavy copper ground wire and a big handful of tabs (mostly older beaver tail pull off tabs). This place definitely had a pool. I found an old photo on line and some of the animal enclosures use part of the old pool. Because there are wild animals in the enclosures I can only detect the grassy areas around them. I?m sure there are some goodies inside closer to the pool, but they are not accessible.

So 2 more silvers from this place. That makes 7 so far, 1 merc from 9 years ago when I first came here and 4 mercs and 2 rosies this year.

I managed to get out to the scout camp one last time before they put up the tents on Saturday. I had a decent day for my 6 hour of swingin the CZ21. I found 147 coins with a face value of $11.92, 96 camp tent pegs, a good knife, 2 neckerchief slides, some sinkers, what looks like part of an obsidian arrow head, a key, a dove pendant, a Canadian penny, a 5 year pin, another rifle blank cartridge (headstamp 1973), lots of melted aluminum and a few tabs.

The Cub Scout neckerchief slide is the original style before they had a different slide for each rank. This one has not been in the ground long and is in nice shape. The Boy Scout slide is a current style.

The pendant looks like silver and is marked Italy, but it is not marked as silver and it just doesn?t look quite right to be silver. I knew the Canadian penny was an older one because it does not have Queen Elizabeth on it. It is dated 1940. The 5 year pin has a yellow/gold backing which means it is from the Cub Scouts. This was found in the Boy Scout part of camp so the pin and the Cub slide were probably lost by a Cub who had recently crossed over into Boy Scouts.

There are pieces of anthropogenic obsidian around camp. The camp was originally for the Pittsburgh area council and it looks like byproducts from the steel process were used for some of the paths in camp. The anthropogenic obsidian is a byproduct of steel making. This piece has been worked and looks like part of an arrowhead with worked cutting edges. It was probably made by a scout or leader showing how native Americans made their tools. Making a replica of a native tool is part of the Indian Lore Merit Badge. There is no naturally occurring obsidian in Pennsylvania so this could not be older than the camp (41 years) unfortunately. I have found a few arrowheads and a spear point over the years, but this is just an interesting rock at this point.

Hopefully I will get more out next week. Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.

PS While hiking with the scout yesterday I found a seldom seen native flower. The pink lady slipper is a beautiful flower and it takes very special conditions for them to bloom. Small changes in environmental conditions can wipe kill them off. This one was part of a group of 4 scattered in a small section of the woods. We were very lucky to see them in bloom.
