I have a buddy who told me he only purchased a few coins for his big collection. They were Morgan Dollars and he purchased them for $12 a coin years ago. He said he couldn't pass up Morgans for that price. It got me thinking, what would you be willing to pay for a Morgan? I am thinking more of the silver value than key dates. I see a lot of Morgan with no reserve on eBay. If you were planning on holding them for at least 20 years or until silver was at an crazy price would you spend $20 on a Morgan? Circulated, uncirculated? Looking forward to your responses!

I have a few. Most were either inherited or given to me. I got 3 at a bank once, a couple years ago or so. Check Ebay for comparative pricing. That's probably the easiest way for a quick and fairly accurate answer. Check out the sold listings first.

I don't buy Morgans....I find them!:headbang:

Spot+$5 is generally a decent price for an average date, circulated morgan dollar.

I see Morgans at my coin shop for $20 but they are trashed. I don't buy them but they are tough to find in the wild. I would buy them for $12 if I had the chance. I prefer to buy them for $1.

When I can find Morgans for ~$18 each I buy as many as I can afford. I keep what I want, and have found I can easily, locally resell the coins I don't want for $20 each.

The best deal I've found on Morgans was last year. A local seller who had been collecting Morgans (mostly for face value) since the 60's was now in his late 70's preparing to move to a smaller house in a warmer climate. He told me the best place to find silver dollars through the 1970's was in bars. FWIW he told me he found most of his coins in small-town Montana bars. He amassed several hundred Morgans over the years. He sold me 55 for $18.18 each ($1,000). I found a few good dates/MM in the mix, although no CC. I would have bought more, but I was a bit cash-poor at the time. He was sold-out before I could scrape together enough cash for another buy. Oh well, at least I was able to buy a few.
