Mortar?

Haven't been out much looking but now that the deer hunters are out of the woods, its time to get back out there. Found this stone awhile back and was wondering what your opinions may be. Would you call it a mortar? The picture may not show it real good, but both sides are hollowed out.

I also have a question about axes. Does any one know of a map or any literature on the distribution of where axes may be found? How far south have they been found?

how is the inside feel? is it smoothed out more than the other/rest of the stone? looks like one to me, but should have a smooth feel inside

Looks very similiar to the nutting stones we find. Both sides are cupped out. Most are made of mountain stone and in areas where there are Hickorys and acorns. Nice find.
