Wicked Wanda, those are early 'wildflowers', don't know the name.

bootybay, we all need to stop & 'smell the flowers'.

Mamabear, the wood cast is 'Lepidodendron', it has diamond pattern, running on an angle, (this one is somewhat distorted), spring is headed north.

Mental granny, hope you get the 'puter problems' worked out.

Justgeese, (cheaper to use my foot), at least I can make life harder for them.

They all came thru they atre great made me feel like I was there taking a lovely walk in the sunshine, and seeing the beauty of nature--thank-you again so much for letting us come along with you!

So... Waffle rocks are formed by fossilized ancient tree bark?

Here's the big waffle rock I told you about. I'd like to the see the tree that formed this..... Must've housed some scary looking creatures, a 4-ton termite?

We're talking about two different things here, the 'waffle rock', as you call them are 'concretions', formed in nature.
The 'tree bark impressions' don't get that big.
That is an impressive rock, I will try & get pic's of a large one in this area later, the guy who found it thought it came fron another planet. lol

I see (said the blind man) what you're saying, and the pattern on your rock appears consistent, where the waffle is tighter towards the bottom of the one I posted.

I'm not sure if I got the "waffle" from the site of the pic above, or maybe a website about someone finding a large one. ...But seek and ye shall find, Google gave me this quote from a page about the state park:

Waffle Rock, a 300-million-year-old rock formation, overlooks Jennings Randolph Lake on the North Branch of the Potomac River

Sorry, if it looked that way, wasn't meaning to hijack your post. Had a second thought that maybe I should have put that pic somewhere else.
