there was a huge anchor found near the ballast rocks but it was taken 40 years ago.

On a More serious note,That anchor is fine. As long as it stayed underwater, it corrodes at a very slow rate. Once brought to the surface it needs to be conserved as fast as possible.

Any body know how long a anchor will last in salt water.

Iron anchors for big ships can last easily 300-500 years in shallow water, almost indefinitely in deep water due to the reduction in oxidation due to lower temperatures and low oxygen content.
2000 year old wooden Roman anchors have been found in Israel.
Stone anchors have been used since at least 2000 BC and will last, as one might imagine, thousands of years .
