I PM'd rockyredbaron about id'ing this shell and thought I'd post it here. Fresh water mussel but I've never seen one quite like this. Anyone know the species? Gary

Not an abalone.
It has a mussel scar in the upper right and pseudocardinal tooth on the upper left.
So definitely a clam or mussel.
I don't know what type, but it's a cool one.

Amblema or Ptychobranchus genus?

A mussel of the Uniondae family (both found in US freshwater rivers, as well)

I'm guessing either a 3 ridge or washboard mussel...d2
