Hey guys..... thanks to all who checked out my prior posts. I have been off of the radar due to an unbelievable workload. Charlie and I got out yesterday and found a few cool items. The first one is merely the TIP of some probable huge spear point. The thickness at the break site along with the weight and feel indicates to me that this is just a little more than the tip. Man..... how I wish I could find the rest and will continue to search for it. The sad part is.... with just this much of it.... I guess there is no way to type and/or date the point. Molly...... have you seen anything similar?

The next item is s great example of the strange and (in many cases) unidentifiable points or partial points that I find here. For anyone that has not seen the many "debatable" items that I find.... the site was used as a summer fishing village from prehistoric times up to the end of Indian activity here. So I come across many "tips" and strange worked stone that I believe was used for spear fishing and the taking of game in the area. So again.... what are your thoughts on the second item? Very hard to I.D. and/or age.

The last item is another "who knows what it is" kind of stone. The cell phone pics do not show it that clear but there are two distinct notches just above the base. Yet..... it is by no means sharp or worked enough for use as a penetrator. Could it be a small net weight? It's just another of the many mystery's that I come across here.

That would have been a dandy! Often I will find a large tip portion of a point and wonder what it may have looked like. Twice I got the opportunity to find out as I walked a little further down the bank and found the base! Good luck out there and thanks for sharing.

I always hold onto the hope of finding the second half but it would be a miracle here. These come out of the river (at low tide) so who knows how far away the other half has traveled.

I think you are battling heartbreak beach with that broken tip. It looks huge !! Hey that looks like a net weight. Here are the one we find around here.Just a rock most times with groves on each side to tie too. I mean why carve a sinker right? See what you think.They look the same to me and I know mine is a net weight : Stay cool

Yea man...... the notches are almost identical! It's not a point.... was found at a fishing site,,,, and was notched by human hands.... so net weight makes the most sense. More imprtantly........ what the heck do you feed fluffy? That is one big Kitty!!!! :laughing9:

Careful TN, that cat looks ready to bite you

Airborne, that tip looks huge. Try holding your points a little farther back from the camera, everything but the point is in focus and you are blessed/cursed with a material that doesn't show flaking very well even under optimum photographic conditions.

I will try your photo suggestion and see what you think. But.... I just came home from a physical.... and Charlie is literally standing here with the leash hahaha. We are gonna hit the river for about an hour and when we get home, I will see what I can do.
You are 100% correct regarding the material and I think that many folks do not understand that about Virginia points. I have many perfect and beautiful recognizable (in terms of type) points that are white quartz, quartzite, etc. and they show no flaking whatsoever. The other thing is... many points here are simply not as ornate as what you find further west. Here again, the material has a lot to do with that. Now... in the case of this big thing.... the funny thing about it is that I have many smaller versions of t he exact same thing. one constant is a very thick edge on one side and a much thinner edge on the oposite side. very strange.

Now that it's starting to get dark earlier, we don't get as much time on the weekdays because after I get home from work.... it's not light enough. I take him on the weekends but so far..... lots of "questionable" finds but nothing solid. The sad news (for me) is I will be gone all of next week, putting on a firearms & Tactics class in Maryland and will be away from Charlie. he gets (as do I ) very depressed when I am away so that kind of sucks. I seemed to have pretty good luck in the winter, before the river freezes, so I am hopeful that this will be a good season. How about you? I have been off of the radar for a while preparing for the training, so when I am in my hotel, I will have to check out the T Net posts that I have missed. Good luck and stay safe brother.
