I've seen a few of those out here in the desert, how they got to be where they are I'll never know.

Looks like you have found a little Fox Body Mustang, Dan. Most likely not too much of value left, but there might be surprises in the value of some of the hinges or small bits of hardware on the bay... Might be a good idea to keep a few notes of it's location, with a picture of it, somewhere in your collection of stuff for one day when there is value in it.

I've pulled motor parts off abandoned carcasses for years, and even though I found a use for them, sooner or later, I've learned that many smaller trim pieces from older autos can be quite a bit more valuable.

That one looks as though it may have been burned... possibly a theft, or insurance scam, many years ago.

Before it became popular for a Boulevard Commando to periodically take his giant 4x4 pickup truck out and actually put it in low range and motor along the old desert backroads and trails, there weren't many people out there, and those that were there were driving whatever they had to get to various prospecting sites.

There used to be many old cars out there.

Then people went and shot them to pieces... some looked as though they were in a war zone in Iraq.

I once discovered a 5 year old Blazer that had been tumbled way in the outback, 40 miles from the paved road.
It was on a Thursday, during late summer months.
It was either a theft, or just some idiot with huge tires and lift that could not control his vehicle.

The driver had apparently pulled the rims and tires, and stereo system, and abandoned the rest.

We went back the next Monday, to see what might be salvaged, and boy what a mess we found left !
Guys on dirtbikes had swarmed in on it over that weekend.
Someone had taken a broken off shock absorber and busted all the glass out, and hammered every single body panel on the entire vehicle. They beat the grill and radiator to shreds and every bolt-on engine part that was within reach. Crazy !

Guess there's a lot of frustrated individuals that get to even remote locations within a few hundred miles of a giant city like Los Angeles.

The old miner's cabins I've located have been about the same, but we figured the destruction started with people searching nooks and crannies for some sort of cache. It always progressed quickly from that point.

Various government agency and greenie cleanup programs have removed many of the oldest interesting hulks from the desert, also. NOT all bad... A lot of it was basic trash.

Today, in spite of the 1872 Mining Laws, many areas are just removed from motorized travel, so people don't even get back into them.
