The guy that was hunting with me found it after she left the beach. We told her we would leave it at the front desk of her motel if we found it. We ran into her in front of the motel. She said her mother had given her the earrings and gave us an 80 dollar reward. She was in tears and kept thanking us and wanted pictures taken with us...it was a nice return.

That crucifix was probably on a fairly heavy chain (based on the size of the bail). You might go back and hunt around for the chain! Chains are harder to find as detectors are only sensitive to the size of the links, so you'll want to maximize your sensitivity. I once found a medallion that was 10k and the size of a dime. Fortunately for me, it was still on the chain which was 18k and contains over 1/4 oz of pure gold. When I took the medallion off the chain, my detector wouldn't even find the chain.

We looked hard for the chain. Maybe someone else found it or when it broke they got it off their neck before it fell in the water.Could the chain have been too far from it
