My dads friends granddad supposedly found it in a cave when he was a boy. And when that friend passed he left it to my dad. I posted it a few years ago. Got a few ideas to its origin. But it's getting harder to id things cause of all the fakes being posted anymore. It's a fascinating piece. The mouthpiece is antler.
I hope that you keep coming back and join in. Couple of other members have found some flutes as well. Reaper even played his in a video a couple of years back. Interesting to hear it.
Thanks y'all. I've been a member since 2006. I believe. Username irbaddadjoe. But for some reason wasn't able to login anymore. And the email I was registered at I had discontinued. Just had to start over.
I'm a total novice here what are the round balls with holes? My mom has one kinda like this. I think the flute is stunning and beautiful! It truly shows their craftsmanship !
I was going to ask about the round balls with the hole. As my collection increases I dread the thought of ever having to move. I will probably live here a long time. You got a few huh? Nice collection
I had the museum of science look at the round balls. And they had no idea what they could be. Other people that have seen them have suggested net sinkers or discoodals. Still a mystery .
Thanks rock. I regret the thought of ever having to move also. I've had the good fortune of having a job that lets me see a lot of places. I've got a pretty nice collection of fossils and interesting rocks as well. I'm a rock hound as they say I guess.
Some are stone and look like a fossilized bird egg and some are quartz looking like a petrified grape. But all have a hole in the end of them. Hole doesn't go all the way through. So i don't think they were beads of any sort.
The holes are why I'm not sure they are game pieces or not. The holes must of had to be for something. I just have no idea. That's why I like everyone's input. When I first found these I had never heard of a discoidal. They've been a great education so far. I sometimes hope someone else finds something like them. And then again have something unique is fun to.

Yes I do. He helped me with a lot of my finds. I had even planned on going up and do some artifacting with him but never found time. He finds some great trace fossils of plants and such. It's been a while since I'd been on. Kinda lost touch with everyone here.
