My coolest find to date!

I finally got my new long handled beach scoop and was itchin to go give it a try in the surf. I found a nuttall scoop on ebay for a good price so I grabbed it. Man it is a beast! It has been very stormy here the past few days so I figured the beach must have moved some sand around. The wind has been strong and it has pushed tons of Sargasso weed onto the beach. I found my usual lot of clad coins and as I was making my way through all of the washed up weed, I notice this little guy!

He or she was so tired! It had been fighting the storm and got washed back onto shore. I started looking for more. I found six of these tired little hatching sea turtles! I stopped the beach patrol and they told me they are washing up everywhere! They took them from me and told me if I find anymore to bring them to the lifeguard station. He said they call the local marine science center who then takes the baby turtles and gives them a glucose shot. When they are re-hydrating and revived they then hand them all off to the coast guard who takes them back out to the gulf stream! Here are some more pics! Enjoy!

Just learned the brown ones are loggerhead and go figure the black one is actually a green sea turtle.

now that is a great find, and a great thing to do. I've had large ones next to the boat at times. They get huge compared to that seedling. :thumbsup:

Man... Jimi D, it seems like you can't do anything anymore (not even save lives) unless you have a permit from the government... really lame!! >:(

That's a good thing you did. I worked as a life guard here for years and we were always thankful when people helped save these little guys after the storms. We're very lucky that here in New Smyrna the law still uses good judgement and understand that people are just trying to help. Now get away from my beach with that big scoop(j/k)
