Wow Hoss, your mug has speckles on it also...check the mug bottom in my photo, has speckles (sides do also, not too visible here) but they are smaller. Is that perhaps an oriental mug finish?

No Red , I think it is probably due to long term exposure ( age ) as these things are a fired ceramic , and the firring ( coating , final finish ) if you will finally starts to deteriorate . I am guessing here , check with Gypsy she far more knowledge about these things than I . Hoss

Old mug, good find from the ghost towns. Makes it worth getting lost or flat tires.
