Hi all,

I have been huntin this old farm from 1740 and have found some goodies. I have dug a total of five coppers. One of them says Britania and looks to have a crown or some type of royal stamp on the top of the bust. If anyone can help with iding this coin thanks in advance. Another appears to be a large cent with a hole for the string and I have another soaking in olive oil and the high points are coming. But two of the coppers are smooth as a babies a$$ and one is twice as thick as the other. Why?

I did manage to find a 1781 silver realle, a couple of musket balls.

Also managed to pull up a lot of tooth paste tubes?

The Washington half was found at a local school in that plastic case.

Re: My finds from 1740 farm

The real thick copper is going to be an early large cent. Such as a Cap cent. They were much thicker with edge lettering

Re: My finds from 1740 farm

Irish Woods Hibernia Halfpenny Circa. 1722-1724. The "crown" is most likely corrosion because it looks raised.

It's not probably since you're so far south, but earlier this year I thought I had two U.S. large cents. The thing is, one was twice as thick as another. Thinking I had a Liberty Cap -era cent and a regular cent, I got pretty excited. Upon cleaning them I realized the thick was a braided hair LC, and the other was an 1820s Canadian copper. But, I'm closer to Canada... not sure if those finds happen as often in PA.

Nice finds :icon_thumleft:

Where is the 1781 silver :dontknow:

I don't remember if the Washington was offered in uncirc. and proof or just uncirculated. It was a comm. and went with a half, I think. I'll bet it is a proof to be in that capsule. I can't remember, it may have been offered in clad and in silver. What was that, 1982? Way too long ago. But now you know where to find all the details.

Bet some kid lost privileges for a week when he lost that.

Great hunt man , your button to coin ratio 1:1 east of your area is 12:1 :icon_pirat: many hunts are no coins found , just buttons, :icon_scratch: but I'm not saying anything is wrong with that . 8) CMD

Your real is a 1/2 real (18mm and .9027 fine silver) CAROLUS III DEI GRATIA (DATE)
Reverse: HISPAN ET IND R M(under 'o') F. F.
If if were a 1 real, instead of 'R' it would read 'REX' and '1R' (and be 20mm)
A great find!!
Don.......
