My first 1/4 Real

This was the last thing on earth I was expecting to find today from this park that was established in 1953 or 1954. Finds are far and few in between these days and I came here to troll for a few deep wheats and hopefully a silver dime or two. I got a solid 12/39, expecting a zinc, my jaw hit the ground when out popped this and I could make out some of the distinct markings. If I hadn't saw a buddy dig 4 of these earlier this year, I wouldn't have had a clue as to what I just found. It's beat to crap and on the toasted side, but, it's beautiful to me. I can't get a date, but, I think it's a 1855, not real sure, but it's my oldest coin.

I have hunted that park for over two years and will say you did good. Lots of construction here and it hard to go past a dirt pile anymore for me. That was a neat find anyway you look at it.

If yours turns out to be similar to the one 'jimzz' posted, then it was illegally struck in Pennsylvania, but circulated in Mexico. The coin would date to 1846 and contain the legend: ESTADO LIBRE DE CHIHUAHUA. A third variety of that coin showing a standing Indian with the denomination and year on the reverse has the legend DEPARTAMEMTO DE CHIHUAHUA.
