I went through my first $1000 in halves. My first box was a skunk and my second box found 5 coins.

4 40%
and the 2004 S.

Is the 2004 S a 90% silver coin or what?

The proof looks silver to me, but its almost impossible to tell positively from a pic. If its silver, the rim will look just like any other 90%er and it will have that distinctive silver sound. If its clad, the rim will look just like any other clad half and it won't sound like silver.

This is easy, not difficult to determine. Clink the proof coin with a clad and see if it sounds like it's silver. If you don't know what silver sounds like, take a known silver coin and clink it with a clad. Now take your proof coin and repeat the same test. The rim will also shine bright silver on the proof if it is silver. This should not be confusing at all.

Ok, it is silver. I spotted it right away on a roll of halves doing a rim check and it sounds just like silver when I dropped it.

Is it worth anything more than melt value?
