Finally got out for a short hunt this afternoon. Managed two firsts, an 1860 fattie and a US belt plate. Unfortunately, the site has been flooded by salt water in the past so neither turned out that well. I got the IH soaking in olive oil now, because it was starting to crumble. As for the belt plate, any suggestions on preserving/cleaning it? It has a little patina left, but quite a bit of corrosion from the salt water. I'm thinking olive oil, but not sure. I almost didn't dig it at first as it rang so loud on the T2.
Here are the cleaned pics. I tried a toothpick, but I had to resort to more harsh measures of hydrogen peroxide.
