I recently got a new M-6.I took it out to 2 old sites yesterday.I dug a 1961 Rosie right away.Found a couple of pennies.I had a little time left to hunt.I went to a spot that always gives up old coins.I found a 1936-D wheatie. The next signal was a VDI of 77 out of the hole comes a Buffalo nickel. The date was worn off.It was one of the coins I had as a goal for this summer(my first summer detecting). Now the only coin left is a Mercury dime, then I can shave.Bill

You'll love the M6 I have one also and it found a 1936 Buffalo for me. It is a great machine and will find plenty of coin. Good luck on your future hunts and keep us posted.

Congratulations on your first, kickback. A 77 VDI is a little strange for a nickel on a White's machine in my opinion. Did you rescan the hole once you had retrieved the nickel?

Is your Mercury dime still in that hole?
I agree. A Buff nickel would read anywhere from 18-23 VDI on my machine. I would never get one at 77. Go back and check that hole. I once found a modern jefferson nickel and a 1908 Barber dime in the same hole. VDI was pretty close to 77 on that hit.

Nice find. I once found a Buffalo at about 7-8 inches deep, which on my whites vdi'd in the 70s. I figured the depth had much to do with that, however, I don't know now if I re-checked that hole or not. Hummm?

way to go...my first buffalo was a 1923...pretty exciting...

you wanna buy a Merc. so you can shave lol

congrats on the buffy find, im still looking for my first

Wow. So you really haven't shaved yet? I think I found a merc before a buff. Guess the beard ain't scratchy anymore. :D Good luck on that Merc and Congratulations on the Buff.

I agree that a VDI of 88 on a white's must mean clad or silver in the hole. Buffs usually ring up at 12 - 14
