Saturday I decided to go out and test some new settings on my CTX-3030. I went to my old hunted out civil war campsite. I wasn't there long before I pulled out my first Confederate "CS" Belt Plate! I was shocked to say the least. This one is the Regulation style and you can see where all three solder marks are on the back, from the long gone hooks. Needless to say I will continue "testing" these settings for another year or two LOL

HEY.....Nice avatar! Congrats Hogge

Thank you all, I'm still smiling. bonepicker, it was only about 4" deep, but it had some iron masking it. I believe that is why it wasn't found before now. I hit this place hard for over 20 years. My great uncle and his buddy pounded it for another 15-20 years before I got into it.

Nice one! Gives more proof to the notion that sites are never "hunted out."

Wow that's an awesome find! Kind of makes you wonder what we all miss at our frequented spots. Congrats on a once in a lifetime find

Steve

An amazing piece of history right there, I think just about everyone that gets into the hobby envisions this type of thing in their minds, to actually get one must've felt amazing!, display that sucker proudly!!

Congrats!

Thanks, nothing better then bringing history from the dark depths into the sunlight. No matter if it's this bucket list CS Plate for me, or a rare colonial coin for someone else. It is about the study and respect for history. I love my hobby!

Thank you all for the replies! I was asked by a member what settings I was using on my CTX-3030. I think our hobby is about sharing, and helping anyone when we can. I will start by saying if you own a CTX you really should get Andy Sabisch's new book on the machine. I had my CTX for over a year and I still learned and understood a lot more with the book. The settings are not magic, just understanding when to use what is the magic. Every area is different. I was testing settings for trashy areas. This belt plate rang up at 12-36 Now the settings.

Response: Normal
Recovery fast: No
Recovery Deep: Yes
Seawater: No
Target Separation: High Trash
Pinpoint Type: Normal

Target Trace: On
Target Trace Pinpoint: On
Sensitivity: Auto +3
Ground Balance: Auto

When I first got my machine, I laid some relics on clean ground and scanned the to see what numbers came up.

The relics used above except the flat button it was all over the place so I didn't include it.

Good luck and happy hunting!

An AWESOME Find Man!!!

Can someone educate me? From the picture it looks very thin, like it made from pressed sheet steel. I though CW buckles were always cast. They manufactured both cast and pressed models?

Thanks.

Clay Slayer, they were stamped brass with hooks soldered on like this one, they were also stamped brass with lead filled back and the hooks in the lead, and they also were cast. Many different types of manufacture were used.

Man that is one sweet find!

That, my friend, IS the stuff dreams are made of! That's all that needs to be said about that!!

Thank you worm, it's been on my bucket list for 20+ years, when I started detecting. It's a "Regulation" Style, in both Mullinax's & Kekrsis's books they both list it as a 7 for rarity. The last thing I expected when I headed out lol.

Thank you for all the replies! This is some research to match which exact "style" this plate it is.
I'm sure plenty more have been found since 1991.
