Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I took yesterday off to detect a beach (skunked), visit family, and spend time with my wife. It got to be around 3:30, when I discovered I still had some time to redeem myself for my earlier detecting disappointment. I hit my farmhouse permission with the goal of gridding the area where I found a William III copper a couple weeks ago. After an hour of finding nothing, I got a little discouraged and anxious to try new soil. I got about four steps away from my grid area when I got an interesting and kind of jumpy tone in the low 20s. While I don't dig every target, when in doubt I dig it out. I really thought I was wasting my time on this one, so I was thrilled when out popped a copper. I put it in my pouch and walked another 100 yards out into the cleared field. Now its almost dark and I am thinking about the farmer's warning of coyotes. Nonetheless, I swung as I walked back toward my car. About halfway back, I got a weak but steady 17 in all directions. I was thinking I might have a button, and was surprised when I scored another copper. I took them home and let them sit a while. Once dry, i gently scraped the soil off. The first coin was completely shot, but I saw what I thought was Lady Britannia on the other one. Upon closer inspection I saw the word CONNEC on the front, my first CT copper. It is in very rough shape after marinating in wet soil, cow urine, and fertilizer for 200+ years, but I like it. I am not going to clean it anymore, as I don't think any more details will come out. The dirt is actually highlighting some of the detail. Now I need to see if I can nail down the type. Anyway, sorry for my rambling. Thanks for looking. Good luck to you all out there.

Congrats! Scored mine last year, in CT. Cool coin.

Very nice! Congrats!

Nice one! Awesome me time. No one loves it like we do.

Congrats!! That is really neat. I don't have any and like seeing stuff like this.

Love seeing state coppers as I have only one myself:dontknow:

Great story and great find! My first CT came in pretty much the same condition very worn but the surface was nice and smooth once I wiped the dirt off it and put some face oil on it. I was even able to make out a date. You might be able to get one on yours too. Good luck with it! If you go any farther just dry brush it. Early on I used water which is apparently not good for the coins.

Wow freakin nice coin great display item I am still looking for one of those. Well done hope theres many more in your future. Tommy

Congrats on a sweet find:occasion14:
