The Mohawk Valley is THAWING !!
Was supposed to be partly sunny and in the upper 40's but by 2 PM it was overcast and barely 40 but my selected sites are ever so slowly becoming less and less snow covered so after work I headed a few miles east to a place I hunted last year where I dug colonial relics and fired up the dusty DFX.
First hour was non productive and a bit disappointing but I was'nt thorwing in the towel..Its an area less then 1/2 a mile from a pre F & I war fort , and is paralle to the original Kings Highway and the Mohawk river.
Worked into a briar patch and was rewarded with a solid coin ID....target the plug and first coin of 2008 , a 1717 KG I farthing !
In great shape to !
Near that dug a colonial button and a dropped musketball.
Closer to the river targeted a iffy high/low tone ID and expected another button but dug coin No#2...Not much detail but guessing a KG I
Last but not least my final find turned out to be the nut that connects the coil to the lower shaft on my old XLT
A bit ironic !
After a brutal winter ...getting out and having a fun day hunting is good for the soul !!
