Hey everyone, trying to beat the heat here in MA so I waited till about 5pm to go out and managed to pull my first Irish colonial coin! ;D It's in decent shape and it's a 1723 Woods Hibernia half penny! Along with that I believe I found a horse rosette? Not sure on that so feedback would be appreciated, thanks for looking everyone and stay cool out there! :sunny:

Update: Added a scanner pic (bottom pic) for comparison which for the record never does ANY coin true justice but...

Looks like a bridal rosette for sure. I can't tell if there is lead on the back of it. Sometimes the glass ones had a design under the glass but yours might be too far gone. Great coin as well.

Congrats on another great coin find :hello2:
The centralized hole is unusual :icon_scratch:
Like that 'Greek Key' stylized rosette

Hi from Ireland, congratulations on your Irish find. Mad it you think about it, some person brought one of these coins so far away and so long ago and you were the one to find it. Nice find

Cheers Bernie.

Thanks very much everyone! :) It was so hot I went out in shorts and got shredded by thorns in the process!(I would do it again :tongue3:) Luckily, I can walk right through poison ivy unscathed. Anyways, thanks again and best of luck out there :sunny:

Hello and thanks back from Massachusetts, as I understand it the Hibernia coins were not popular in Ireland and as a result some were sent to to the American colonies to be used as currency. However it could have been dropped by Irish settlers who first started arriving somewhere around the mid 17th century.
