I actually found this a couple of months ago but just finally today got my scanner working again so now I can put up pictures.
Its my first real jewery find and it shocked me when I cleaned it off and found out it looks pretty nice. Found it in my sisters back yard with the help of my 2 1/2 year old neice. They had a humungus tree cut down. Over 3 feet in diameter and I was detecting in and around the hole of the stump. Since I was only finding junk so was letting her dig too. (I cant believe she didnt chop it) I cant find any marks on it that says it is silver but I think it is because I cleaned it off and since then it has tarnished again. It does say France in teeny letters on both medallions. Too big to be a bracelet and too small to be a rosery. Part of the chain crumbled when I cleaned it so I replaced 2 links. I hope the picture comes out ok

Silver or not, that would make my day!

I found a bracelet sort of like that in a soccer field. By some miracle, I didn't chop that one either. It was at night.

Congratulations!

junque is part of the deal! ;) You are doing great!

Those are lovely-I think that they may have started out as Rosary beads and either broke or were modified to wear as jewelry. Do they show the Madonna and child with "Our lady of Lourdes, pray for us" and is that the cathedral of Notre Dame on the triangular piece? My grandmother used to carry a rosary that she got from a friend who visited Lourdes that was similar.

Neat find and great job on the cleaning. Do you have any idea how they ended up in your sisters yard? Keep digging and I am sure you will find more.

This thing sure has become interesting to me.Thanks for all the compliments. My sisters house is in a subdivision that was part of the field of one of the oldest farms around. It could be very old but then who knows, all the houses around here used to be farms. The tree they cut down had to be at least 100 years old. The dirt was disrupted when they pulled out the huge stump so I cant say what the original dept was. It was only about 4" down when I found it.
It says..Bonne St. Anne De Beaupre P.P.N. on the front. I googled it and St. Anne is the mother of Mary. So the picture that I thought was of Mary and Jesus is really of Mary and her mother, St. Anne.
On the back it says.. Basilque de St.Anne Beaupre. The picture is of the Basilque.
She is the patron saint of Quebec. It also says France on both pieces. I dont know what P.P.N. is and I dont know why it doesnt have any marking saying it is silver. It sure shines up nice when I polish it with a cloth.
Thanks again for the compliments

Whatever it is it's definetley a great first(jewelry)....Kinda give's me that Rosary look!!Nice Job!!

Cool find Minnie! Not sure how close you are to Canada, but the St. Anne de Beaupre' Basilica is in Quebec along the St. Lawrence River. Possibly this piece was purchased there years ago.

Keep digging!

Congratulations on that first piece of Jewelry. As many mentioned above doesn't have to be silver or gold to be a very nice piece of jewelry. And that one looks very nice.

Since this is the first post of yours I have read, let me take the time to say welcome to T-net. I have been gone away for a while so many new peps here.

Good luck on all of your future finds. Hope to get to see you posting many a good find.
