I woke up a bit late this morning but feeling good and decided to make the most of what little time I had. Today's target was an old homestead that I know very little about other that the fact that there is virtually no trace of it above ground today. I only had 2 hours to hunt so I was just bouncing around hoping to find something good. Luckily in my last 15 minutes I pulled up an old dime with a hole (bummer). I cleaned it just well enough to figure out it was my first Seated Liberty Dime and with the hole I didn't expect to find a date, so I stuck it in my pocket and kept hunting hoping for one of its larger friends to be nearby. No more goodies but that one made my day. After getting it under running water, sure enough there was a date I NEVER expected. My first pre civil war coin, dated 1841, and smashing my previous record when I found an 1878 Seated Liberty Quarter. *Anything pre 1880 in this area is considered a rare find

felt good huh, post a pic so we can all savor the silver :laughing7:

The first one is always remembered! Congrats!

Nice! That is an old one for this area!

Congrats on digging your 1st seated and your oldest coin. :occasion14: Seated coins are scarce here in Ohio.

Congratualtions on your oldest coin! :occasion14:

Congratulations on your first Seated Dime.
Nobody gets tired of finding those.

Oh Yeah Baby! Sweet Silver - Congratulations! :headbang:

Nice find, I think Seated coins are very rare finds, I remember reading about my Peace Dollar I had found and, on memory, (which is not real good) I remember them saying they took allot of Seated coins and melted them (because silver was rare because of the war effort, WWI) to make Peace Dollars. I need to read up on that again and check to see/compare mintage's with other series to see if that is why? Does anyone know, I'm really not an expert?

That's a nice find ! The hole adds interest and character (while tanking monetary value) I still am awaiting my first Seated Liberty of any denomination.

Congrats, I am still waiting for my first

Bing bang boom! Silver ..nice

The hole definitely has more of a story. People didn't trust pockets and wanted to string money togeather!

Ooh that coin was a bucket lister for me !! Great find !
I love those seated coins. Hh glm

Hole or not, still a great find... the hole shows you how valuable this coin was.. they tied them together so they wouldn't lose them...

Judging by the wear, it was probably circulated for 50 years before being dropped, which puts it in the time period for your area. Nice find.

Congrats

Awesome job on the seated... Love to find one with a hole in it like that..
