I'm a relative newbie ( a few weeks) to metal detecting. Today, I found my first silver, a 1903 Barber quarter. I was hunting on private property about 1 1/2 miles from my home. Gave me a bit of a rush, as I was only finding memorial cents for the most part.

Fantastic!! Many folks hunt for years without finding a barber. I'd carry that baby as a good luck charm every time I went hunting (in a plastic protector). I bet it was a rush, and the great thing about detecting is you get the same rush every time you dig a cool coin or relic!! Welcome to the site, and one thing, we LOVE photos!! Show us a photo of that bad boy!!

That's great !! Your first silver is a Barber Quarter ! I'm sure it was a great surprise & quite the thrill. Best wishes for many more!!
There are many more silvers lying underground waiting for you to wave your magic wand over them. CHEERS !!

There is nothing like the feeling of seeing your first silver coin come out of the ground.

When it happened to me, my eyes almost popped out of my head.

Congrats. It took me almost 4 years to find a Barber quarter. I had found a trime, Spanish reale, 2 cent piece, seated coins, and a bunch of other rare bucket listers before I found a barber quarter. Happy for you!

I still haven't dug a barber quarter and I've got hundreds of dug silvers including around 15 barber dimes. Grats on a great find and know that once you find the first, they come easier now.

I got my friend into detecting over 4-years ago, and he is still trying to find his first silver coin! He has found large cents and a half cent, a bunch of old flat buttons, V-nickel and buffalo's. But that silver is eluding him. So a couple of weeks in, you are on top of the world! Congratulations, and here is hoping you stay 'into' the hobby, even through the droughts that happen. Just remember that 'rush'!!!
