It's new and worked awesome for 2 weeks.... Now the pinpoint seems to fade out and not work right. Latley it also seems to go crazy on one spot, and soon as I start to dig... Boom no signal anymore. And why does cast iron not register as iron.... But beeps at the opposite end if the scale?

Check your Batteries and Tighten your Connectors!!! HH Chug Been reading up on them!!!

Changed the batteries... I'll check connections.

Ours has done the same thing. It's almost as if there is metal in the "wind". Honestly, the detector will start to go CRAZY, from Foil to Silver, back & forth almost to the point of annoying. then I will lift it in the air and it's still detecting. We actually thought we were over a coffin or something. Then we turned it off and on again, same thing. went and set it down 10ft away from where we marked a few spots, came back after digging a few 6" holes & used pin pointer, and NOTHING.......

PS, We replaced our batteries last week. I'm telling you, it's "wind" fragments, or something in the air...... :)

I have had that happen to! That's exactly what I had to do.. Turn it off and put it a few feet away. Lmao... Mine did it too when I held it in tbe air . It did it tonight too actually. I ended up digging up some peice of heavy duty metal door stop that didnt rust and that dumb tbing was a good 14 inches underground. But a total waste of an hour if my time. Not a speck of rust and was buried in red clay... Had to be modern.
Anyhow back to our problem.... Both times mine went crazy I was was not far from underground electrical lines... Sometimes I can go right over them and get one ding ... And these times just being near tbem made it spazz .

Sounds like EMI......try it out in the fields away from all wires, and turn your cell phone off...see if that helps

What's emi? And never thought of the cell phone before. However I did realize after a bit that my steel toes were setting it off... Lol

EMI=electro magnatic interference.....from power lines, radio waves, Police radios and such.....its what messes up your detector in the house.
Gary

Mettal detecting shouldn`t make you frustrated it `s a great commer of nerves.
I live in the country and my machines run fine ...but i go to town to hunt ....and one part of town 10 square blocks are unhuntable must be wires in the ground.Maybe your hunting in a place that just has to much junk and EMI for just starting out...try it in a friends yard,in a plowed field.
Parks are so littered with metal junk and are not a good place to start anymore. Turn down the sensitive on the detector see if that helps.
So try it in the woods away from all power lines, electro fences, cell phone towers, and cell phones...no steel toes ether. lol
If it still acts freaky then it`s broke and send it back to get fixed.
Gary

Gary's right! I've experienced the same problem--until I turned off my cell. High-tension lines, cell towers, airport landing systems (!), other detectors etc. can also cause this!!
HH!!!
