So my grocery store has the old time change machine at each cash register that houses all of the qtrs, dimes, nickels and pennies in vertical clear tubes.
So I am buying my groceries with cash and I see that there is a silver dime in the middle of the dime roll.

Knowing that I am not going to be able to retrieve it, I still ask the cashier if I can switch my dime out for the silver one in the roll.
I swear, she looked at me like I had 4 heads.

I just started laughing and left..... :laughing7::laughing7:

Next time, ask if you can swap her out a dollar for it.

She probably thought they were all "silver" lol

just keep stacking, just keep stacking, stacking stacking stacking

Sir - it could have been a Canadian dime. seriously - don't fret over a silver dime. <--- a 'potential' silver dime.

I'm not. I just thought it was funny.

I remember years ago when I spotted silver dimes or quarters in those machines...there were always several silver edges...yes Canadian...and they've infiltrated the clad US coin here, so I gave up :BangHead:

I work part time at a grocery store and look every day i work at the dispensers and coinstar. If i find one i just ask one of the ladies who works up there to swap it out.

I used to keep track of how many ive found but eventually stopped.

I find mostly dimes few nickels n quarters.

Last year it was a total of 3-4 oz total.

I find on average about 7 Canadian dimes in a box.

After you have seen enough of them its pretty easy to tell the difference between the Canadian and a silver rosie by looking at the reeded edge.

I worked for an oil jobber back in the late 70s to mid 80s as a 'supervisor/auditor'. I would go to the stations (self-serve) and do inventories. Each time, I would count the cash-drawer and adjust it for a certain amount of money. I always watched for silver coins; and when I had the time, I would try to check the pennies for Wheaties. In all those years, I found very few coins that I thought worth keeping. I found more with a metal detector! I went through 8 rolls of pennies these last few days and found about 30 pre-83 pennies of which 3 were Wheaties. I found several 83 pennies, but only one of the 83s was copper.

Ok, newb sticking my face in for my two cents worth,,,but yes-great story, as I always find myself rooting around in the "take a penny leave a penny" dish at the Marathon station, and HA! paid off with a wheatie this week..I know-one wheatie but still a score. And the girl asked why i traded a nice shiny penny for the old ugly one...Then-theres that stinkin clear, plastic donation box for the local Humane Society at Tim Hortons, and I swear-they empty that thing like..twice a year and there must be 75 lbs of change in there..(yup-glued down dont ask), and the girls look at ME like I have 4 heads when they catch me tapping on it trying to get the change to move around...like I could even get to it if I seen silver...YEP i have silver fever,,,thx guys!!

You mean 1982 cents, correct?

Definitely!! Just a slip of the finger. When I started scanning down the posts a minute ago, that stuck out like a giant beacon. 83; must be getting old! I found a couple of more yesterday (82 coppers) and two more Wheaties.
