I built this antenna for cost of a coax connector. 2 pieces of speaker wire and a 30’ tall cherry tree, those I had on hand. I anchored the tree into a 3’x4’ wooden cable spool, and strapped a 10’ piece of plastic conduit to the top. One 100” piece of wire going vertical, and the same length going down at a 45 degree angle tied off with a piece of string. It’s a simple dipole with single element ground plane. I’m talking to guys 30+ miles away, they’re using the same type of antenna I am, but their commercial units cost around $150-$200.
