I found this inscribed stone in my friend's yard in Glastonbury CT. The stone measures about 2" long by 1" wide. I've shown it to a few experts who all have different opinions as to what the stone is as well as the meaning of the inscriptions.

The yard in which it was found has been flooded by the Connecticut River periodically almost yearly. It is also also at the bottom of a hill which was once inhabited by a Native American tribe.

Any help in identifying this stone is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for taking a look:-)

It looks like a trail marker stone

2"x1"?? A trail marker for chipmunks?? The first leaf that fell on it would prevent it from marking a trail. Up here in the northeast we have many odd looking stones from when the glaciers came and gouged out the earth. Many rocks were also carried here from further north and many of them got tumbled and gouged. It looks like a natural rock to me and I'd like to see the credentials of the "expert" who calls it an "authentic artifact" and "worth a lot of money". Not trying to dampen spirits here, just trying to be realistic. Diggergirl, do you MD in Glastonbury?? A lot of colonial history around there.

Well ya'll...My Father is telling me that he does not want me to play with ya'll any more for a while...He wants me to remind ya'll of the cease and desist order... And to remind ya'll of the 7 day thingy...Oh well...This may not make sense to some of ya'll but My Father informs me that it will make perfect sense to some of ya'll Others...

.....and this is your brain on drugs. Any questions? :)

Gator, you won't find cairns like in the photo here in the northeast that are old. Last a season, maybe. Water would get in between all those small stones, freeze, expand, and dislodge the stones. The one in the photo looks like something kids would make in the woods.

I just tossed out an idea.. Because I've seen them carved before
... by the way where would the stones go when they fell over..
I've seen a lot of marks and striations from glacial movement in stones when I lived in Vermont I saw a lot never saw any quite like that one.. I certainly couldn't criticize the findings of someone who has held it personally.
I'm sure you've seen plenty in New York where you live right?
I lived for 5 years in that frozen tundra north of you sure glad I got back home to the south
