"My Lady BarClay Gold Coy " Garden Gully Gold Reef [1860's}]
Hi all, Been quite for a few days. having to go too work in temps well above a 100 degrees is not much fun. Finaly yesterday a mild change can threw, no rain but the temp dropped about 20 degrees. I had a problem with my gpx but all is well and a big thanks to local md shop for great service and a reasonable charge.Ditty mds can spoil ones hobby real quick.Johny and frank and myself spent a good 7 hours clearing the rubbish and we found a few relics and quite a few small pieces of gold near a crushing battery site a few yards from an old mine.
History My lady BarClay was a mine lease owned by a cornish family {Grist} Not one of the largest mines but gold was mined at this site for 45 years. 3 shafts .all about 700 feets deep and had about 11 levels. Gold yeild was 100,980 ozs Crusher was powered by a cornish Derwent Engine imported from conrwell coal mine. Crusher only had 2 sets of 6 stamper batteries , so a large team of men were employed to break up the quartz by using hammers so it could fit into the stampers.51 people worked at this site. Located on the longest saddle quartz reef "Garden Gully" this reef is about 25 miles long and has many claims and mines .Shame about the relics yes i only got a half a buckle again and only one silver coin and ??.
heres the 2 evening finds and a site pic.
