My Latest Acquisitions

Every year we have a huge 4 day Flea Market in our town over Labor Day weekend. I went down on Thursday to check it out and found a guy selling some field grade artifacts and a few nicer ones. I asked if he had found them all and he said yes and that just needed money so he was selling off some of his collection. I asked about a few of the pieces and got some prices and was really surprised how reasonable he was. I got a nice Stemmed Kirk with great serrations, a nice little Dart Point, and a killer hardstone Cone for $30. I looked them over very closely and I got a good feeling from the guy, plus just about everything he had was field grade. He didn't have anything that threw up a red flag with me.

Hey Dorkfish,

I dig those serrations on the Kirk, that is a wicked piece. How was the hard stone cone employed?

Not really sure what Cones were used for. There lots of speculation, but no hard evidence that I know of. Some people say they were put on the eyes of the dead in the graves, but yet I have never heard of any being found that way. Others say fetish pieces or game pieces. I have always thought that maybe they were miniature versions of the burial mounds and therefore effigy pieces.
