Won't need to tune it out.

I'm curious how the synthetic will meet the natural bone.
I was told leverage would break an insert embedded into my femur.
Others I've studied "weep" at the transition/site metal meets bone.

Either way , let's celebrate your nephews being alive!

Therapy will be an absolute influence on him . Even long after.
Adaptability matters , and is influenced by attitude.
Go nephew djm!

Great news and you have prayers still coming!

I Believe he said his first Surgeon wanted to Amputate.

But My nephew is a Very active Person. Hunting, Detecting, You name it he probably did it or Wants To :laughing7:
& doesn't want that big a change in his life, So he checked around for Someone who said they can Help.
that's why he chose this surgeon. he was told the recovery will take time.
But knowing him as I do, He'll be pushing things as fast as he gets Home.

Being able to naturally Bend his Knee is What Concerns me.
you see these Runners with 2 Synthetic Legs, They seem to get along.
He'll actually Keep his Flesh, his lower shin, ankle and foot. They intend to wrap it around, his leg,
after the Removal of all inside.

It'll be interesting.... And certain things need to go well. Body tolerate foreign material ect..
But , science is a marvel sometimes.

No knee =200+ times the effort to swing a foot. Wanting to preserve former mobility is certainly a desire and goal.
Regardless , nephew goes forward. Only he can stop his doing so.
Rehab will likely start fast. As it should. It's not just physical change.

Had a friend that had femur removed from a leg he would never use again. No replacement structure.
I never got the concept of leaving that leg.... He was kinda like , oh well.:icon_scratch:

He’s up!!!
PT and OT stopped in today and didn’t really give an option for no!! Dennis put on his own sock, and then he was on his feet!! A few baby steps, but it is a start. He is going to have the nicest arms/upper body when this is over

Pain meds are still keeping him mellow and resting/sleeping most of the day. Bandages were changed and his incision looks great!!

Still groggy from all the drugs.

I think I’m going home today, finally. 3 weeks I’ll be locked in an immobilizing leg brace which sucks but part of the game I guess.

I had a new knee installed July 2018. Best thing I ever did. No issues what so ever so hope yours is too! I know yours will be more involved than a normal knee replacement. Good luck, eat healthy & listen to your physical therapist.

Dennis is home...settled...and resting. The kids were excited he is home, but they are sleeping over with the grandparents for a few days so Dennis has a quiet, calm house!! I mean-if you know my kids, you know there is not much quiet and calm about them
While I’m sure you are all anxious to message and chat with my amazing patient, I just ask you give it a few days. There was very little rest while in the hospital, and I know D is looking forward to some solid sleep over the next few days. While he has made tremendous progress, he still has a pretty intense therapy plan to get him fully recovered.
Thank you all for the prayers, and kind thoughts!! We are so grateful for all the kind words and help from our amazing families and friends ❤

& still sitting on the Couch in an immobilizing leg brace .

About a week & a Half to go before he can go for

Thanks to All You people who Wished him the Best in each your own Ways :notworthy:
