Well I still have my Prizm 3 but since I love high end electronics I figured I would give it a try. Everybody that has owned one That I have talked to that actually got the chance to learn it loves it. I have a friend of mine that has one and after owning detectors for 20plus years and going over every last inch of his own property over that 20 years walked out his front door and found a 1910 penny and a barber dime in the same spots that hear has gone over a hundred times. He stated that he feels as if he was running out of places to detect until he bought his Exporer and now can start all over again.
I hope I can have the same feeling.I'm going to hunt a piece of property sunday morning that belongs to my past great grandparents. The property has been in their family since the early 1800's and its a flat smooth ground now that should be perfect to detect! I cant wait!
Ill post my finds tomorrow after I get back for sure!

Great Detector.....Good choice....I have had luck with my machine..Read the directions well and Good luck in all your searches!

Good detector. Don't be discouraged by the learning curve. It works different than other detectors and displays the results differently too.

That flat sooth ground sounds like it has lots of good targets covered up if it was once hilly. Get Garrett's book, Successful Coin Hunting to lean new spots to detect you never thought about. Good Luck.......

Congrats on the new detector! Now you need to spend some quality time learning it well.

The Explorer is one machine I've never used. I plan to get one some day and when I do I'll figure on a lot of concentration and study. I'll probably buy it used just in case I can't handle it. Lots of people get these and then sell them. But, that's also true of just about every brand and model.

I guess the main reason I would like to try the Minelab is because I'd just like to see if there really are super deep coins here in Michigan.

What you wrote about your friend finding stuff where he had hunted many times before is exactly what I'm experiencing with my Tesoro DeLeon. Man, it's like all my old places were never hunted by anyone! And almost all the finds are less than 4 inches deep.

I regularly dig coins in the 1800's but, like I wrote above, they're usually less than 4 inches deep. The deepest coin I ever dug in my 39 years of THing was back in about 1983 and they were all together (Indian cents) at 6 to 9 inches. I found them in a place where the park had been filled.

I have friends who hunt 6,000 year old ancient artifacts (Copper Culture) and they say they're usually in that 4 to 9 inch deep range.

Let us all know about your finds and try to very carefully check the depths.

Thanks much and good luck.

have dug several rev war lead balls at 11 inches plus and a small near 3 inch square hatchet head at 2 feet with my explorer 2 with 10 inch coil, all being in relatively hard rocky soil.....i can only imagine how it would perform with one of the large specialty coils........one day............gldh ntr

Congrats on the new machine and good luck with all of your hunts

Let me know how it does on Nickles and gold...My bronze coins fall into the foil - nickle- gold- range...I am thinking of getting one this fall! Anyone else too!
Thanks Dave

Pro,

Good luck with the new detector. I did alot of research in choosing the Quattro. (similiar to the explorer but without the ID # readout (only conductivy # with ID icon)). It will drive you nuts first couple of weeks but eventually you'll figure it out and know it's capabilities.
