This is as old a coin as I am likely to get in this area, and my most exciting find yet. This was in a local but little hunted ghost town. I am so excited, Can any one identify this as large date or small date??

I think I can make out a 1848 seated half dime and a piece of ceramic/china with a chicken or turkey on it. Older than anything I have ever found, Great find.

Edit: To be exact, SEATED LIBERTY HALF DIMES (1837-1873).

looks like a large date piece to me,

excellent find,

I'm drooling all over my keyboard now. Shame on you!!!
Way to go. Go get some more!!!

Nice keeper. I've found one here in Oregon. an 1867, and man does she have some miles on her.

That's an exciting find. Congrats.

Smokes, LeoJ a 1867 thats a $300 coin minimum if its no mint mark, Way to go!!

Great find!
Nice condition!

Excellent job.....I agree with a few of the responses above....large date. I looked in my red book and they didn't make very many of those. Do you see a mint mark on the backside side above the bow? I don't see anything in the picture.

No mint mark, but after looking on ebay it looks to be small mint mark (still undecided) as the others are impenging into the liberty.

If there is a mint mark it will be above the bow on the reverse side.

Congratulations!

It's in very nice condition.
