Its going to the shop today and I will be off the air for a while. I cant even load a pic rite now. Dont worry though I will return. I am doing a hunt in the next couple of days in a new field and hope to find some killers while away. HH everyone, rock

I was made a beleiver. The last mac mini I had ran for about 5 years I never turned it off or did anything. So small I would loose it on my desk but 5 times the size and power of the Ole Dell I had. Crazy how they work. I actually still have it and have been meaning to turn it in for a store credit. Funny when you loose your computer because you put a piece of printer paper down.
Glad you are back Rock!

I fix my own pc, I remove any virus, trojans and spyware myself too.... American by birth, Patriot by choice. I would rather die standing on my two feet defending our Constitution than live a lifetime on my knees......
That's the way to do it. My brother is the computer nerd. He goes through the registry as soon as he gets a PC and removes lots of start up crap. His theory on computer viruses is strange but makes sense. He says viruses are created by the same guys that create the antivirus software. I'm not sure about the conspiracy theories. I've seen him repair computers that techs claimed were shot. Most of the time, unless hardware is bad, fixing a computer is comparable to a rubrics cube. With enough patients, you will solve the problem.

Ive always thought the guys that create a virus are the same that sell the spyware to prevent it. How else are they going to make any sales? But my pc is doing fine now and it only took 2 days to fix it. I have a home town repair guy and he charges half of everyone else. He also has a collection I am waiting to see.

Who Writes Viruses... and Why?

The people who write viruses generally have their own reasons for what they do, and they aren't too open about identifying themselves, for obvious reasons. It is believed that most virus authors are young men in their teens or early twenties, who have a great deal of technical knowledge and have decided for various reasons to use it for destructive purposes. Some of the reasons that people write viruses:

Sociopathy:
Many virus writers are just troublemakers--or maybe just troubled individuals--who want to create havoc and then thrive on the attention it generates. They are the electronic equivalents of graffiti artists, prank phone callers, etc., looking for fame and glory in a rather twisted way.

Revenge:
Sometimes viruses or trojan horses are written by disgruntled employees or others who want to get back at someone or make a statement.

The Challenge:
Some virus writers do it just to see if they can away with it. As virus detectionsoftware gets smarter, virus writers have to employ new tricks to have their "products" evade notice.

Education:
Writing viruses, especially ones smart enough to avoid detection, requires a great deal of technical know-how. Some people take up virus writing to teach themselves how to program at a low-level within the PC. It's ironic, but experienced virus writers are among the most technically skilled PC programmers in the world! What a waste, isn't it?

In many cases, full-fledged war can break out between famous virus writers and the companies that write antivirus software.

Given the twisted genius of many virus authors, it isn't surprising that many new viruses specifically target antivirus software programs!

Then the antivirus programs modify themselves to protect against these new attacks, and so on, and so on. In essence, it's a digital war zone out there, and your hard disk is the battleground. There are thousands of viruses floating around and you ignore the risk at your peril.

Fortunately there are ways of coping with this madness, primarily by preventing virus infection, and performing routine scans for any that evade your defenses.

The guy that fixed mine actually told me that the spyware I was using had been hijacked. I got a message from the spyware I was using that said I had a free trial for one of their upgrades. Well it wasnt a true message even though it looked correct so when I used it that is when the attack began. Anyway I have a different one now and I wont be excepting anymore free trials in the future.

I can tell you with 99% certainty there's probably very few in the forums that know more about PC hardware than me. I owned my own OEM for 7 years, installed too many Windows client/server type networks to count. I wouldn't buy a car with the intent of knowing I have to fix it every 500 miles, even if I was a mechanic. People who are on the Windows side of the classic Mac vs PC debate are usually those who never owned a Mac. My Macbook Pro is 3 years old, and honest to God, has never been down for one minute. I got tired of fixing 'em and actually wanted to USE one.

What if everyone around you was finding gold with their Whizbang 2000 detector, that cost $1000 and you were finding nothing but trash with your Grentech 1500 that you paid $200 for, and you're stopping every 20 feet to re-ground balance it, cycle the power and start all over. Which detector is giving you the most bang for your buck?

Rock, what kind of issues are you having with Google? I recently had had a malware problem on google. but it was an easy fix if that,s the problem. it was a free download. I just googled malware on google and got the site. Hope that helps!

I have been using PC since 1978, first pc I ever used was TSR-80, the first PC I personally owned was Tandy 1000 bought in 1984...

Last pc I had lasted me roughly 8 years,no problems. It was still working when a buddy of mine gave me another one.I pulled the hard drive out of the old one and put it in the pc that was given to me.windows xp was already on the hard drive of the comp that was given to me so I had an extra hard drive all ready to go.The old hard drive lasted another year and a half, just recently i switched over to the new hard drive, got all the updates to xp(152 of them) downloaded,I'm all set.Apple isnt immune to viruses, theres just more pcs than apples out there so those are the chosen ones, its a game of numbers.why infect 10 people with a virus when down the street you can infect 1000.Treat your pc right and it will last, let an idiot use it and get into it,its all done.

Of course every computer is great when it works and they all stink when broke!! haha Now days just use a smart phone.

I use my smart phone far more than my desktop, if is basically a mini computer......

I just build my own computers. We have 6 computers in operation almost 24/7. We have two spares; one that I built and one that is an old Dell from the late 90s. We also have 2 laptops. Yes, I have some problems with hardware breaking occasionally; but considering that most of it was purchased 'on sale' or cheaper products, I'm not surprised. We have one computer that I built in 2009 that is still operable; but is used as a spare. Yes, it's a bit outdated; but still gets the job done. As I said earlier, we use the Microsoft Security Essentials and have had great results with it. Everyone must watch for the different ways that the screwballs are always trying to get into your computer or trying to infect you. I've been called on the phone, by people telling me that my computer is infected with a virus and that they work 'for Microsoft'. They say that they can fix it if I allow them to access my computer online. The first time it happened, I was gullible and allowed a woman to 'access' my computer. After a few minutes, she said that it was repaired and that I owed her $99.99. Nothing had been said about a fee! I told her to get the 'f**k' off my phone and that I had better not ever get any kind of a bill from her. I immediately turned off the computer, wiped the hard drive, and reprogrammed it. Also, I changed my important passwords. Since then I've had these type of calls about 4 times. I have had some real fun 'playing' with these people. I make believe that my computer is broke; but if they will give me their name and the name of the company they work for, I'll call them back when I get my computer repaired. I also 'pin' them down to see if they'll admit that they actually do not work for Microsoft; of course they don't. I 'play' with them until they realize that I'm not going to play their game; then they hang up. My son-in-law got a call and was asked for 'up to $500 for online repair. He kept 'playing' with them for almost 40 minutes before they hung up! There have been several times that I've had a 'popup' saying that my computer was infected. The popup was designed to look similar to the Microsoft logo. I got 'infected' once by clicking on the 'remove virus' button on it. I spent almost 30 minutes removing the 'garbage' that it put on my computer. If I get one of those now, I just reach to the back of the computer and flip the on/off switch because it won't go away. It's the easiest way to get out of it. I haven't had this to happen for almost a year and believe that Microsoft probably updated to keep these from happening.

I have gotten the same call. I asked them how they got my phone# it has never been associated with my computer or any software.... When the hee-hawed around about it I told them to go away and hung up...

An old high school friend of mine got into buying and selling e-mail addresses and phone numbers. He is a millionaire now and lives in Vegas. I do NOT agree with what he does. In my opinion he has made millions of dollars by being counterproductive. That may be how your number got out.
