My pride and joy when I was 11

Mine was a mini bike when I was 8, not sure what it was, 5 or 8 horse brigs? my dad and I were just laughing about it a few weeks ago, we can laugh now since I didn't die.
When he brought it home, got it out of the truck, started it up, I gave it no break in time, I got on, no helmet, and it was flat out as fast as it would go across the field, turned around and then flat out back.
On the way back a hump in the field got me a little air born, the front wheel came off, front forks stuck in the ground and I went flying. Scraped and bruised head to toe but nothing broken.
At 13 I got a Yamaha 125, but we made sure all the bolts were tight before I took it flat out :laughing7:

Who else had one of these beauties with the banana seat?

Schwinn Stingray!! My most favorite part with mine was the drag slick on the back.

Just found a pic of my real first ride...got it when I was 5. Funny how I'm seeing the flame theme now for the first time...lol:blob8::blob8:

Loved going fast and hitting the back brake and then measuring my skid against the skids of the neighborhood kids. I did not have a drag slick but sure went thru a lot of new tires at local Schwinn shop.

Today’s kids with their virtual reality will never know such fun.

i still do that a while back i was my bicycle and i was flying down the road when i tried to stop i pressed the front brakes i did a front flip and landed on my back with my bike a few inches from my head

Great thread.

I went from a Schwinn Scrambler to a Mongoose w/ Roger Decoster fork, and all the good parts. My grandma spoiled me, so I had the coolest bikes on our street!

I wish grandma was still around, I could use a new toy or two!

Spoil your grandchildren the way she did in her honor and to pay tribute to her.

Most of us treasure hunters are nostalgia buffs for sure.

Started with a Honda Z50 J 76 model. Ended up making a blower for it 20 years later. Sorry about the poor pic, I took it from a video on the TV. I took the bones out of a pneumatic orbital sander (small rotary vane pump) but instead of using the air to power it I span the shaft to creat boost. New bakelite vanes (tuffnol maybe?) I turned a block of aluminium and pressed in the pump. I ran a 19mm delorto from a fantic super rocket (italian 50cc wreck I had in my stockpile). I machined a groove in the flywheel and drove it at about 2.6 to one. Tiny V belt was from a hoover vacume cleaner that drove the brush infront. Sounded like a dentist drill...valve caps were aftermarket Honda 750. It ran well. Pre internet days not much info. Intake needs 150% of cyl volume when blowing a single but mine was a little more. Fuel pooled if idling too long. I really should have taken some of the valve overlap out of the cam as a considerable ammount of boost is lost (need a little to keep the piston cool). I had no tacho but valve bounce was an issue at high rpm. The 3 speed auto was ofcourse the limiting factor. I later discovered that the clutch baskets tend to explode at very high rpm (they run at crank speed). Such happy times !

I still have a 86 Z50 that I ride detecting sometimes. Will post a pic just now.

Wow! Seeing that Schwinn Stingray again made my stomach drop. I wanted one so bad and still do.

Guess what, you are now “old enough” to be able to “have” one.. ;)

My brother had bought a /69 Cougar Eliminator one very cool car. So I blew my savings and got one too. 3 speed shifter, and I remember doing my fare share of rubber marks on the roads.

We were fearless

Also had my go kart in 78 just like this exactly. It’s hard to believe I was driving a go kart at 9 in the street knocking over steal garbage cans. What can I say I lived on a dead end street with a single mother that had guilt for me being fatherless. Best childhood ever.

P.S. Almost forgot no governor and a shoe string pulled by hand for the throttle. Lol
